Big Vision for Young Moms #1

Joy and DavidMeet Joy Forney. She is a "stay at home missionary" in more than one sense, and she is going to be sharing a 5-part series for us on Big Vision for young moms and the obstacles to that vision. Be sure to check out her bio at the end of this article and learn what is so special about her...

It's in those most challenging moments as a mother that we find ourselves asking questions:

Why am I here?

Why am I doing this?

Does any of this matter?

Does my life count for anything at all?

Well, your life and your job as a mother does matter.

We have a High Calling from the High King of Heaven to carry out His purpose as mothers of the children He has given to us.

His desire is that we take joy and delight in this role, that we love mothering. That we revel in it. That we flourish through our mothering.

"O, that God would give every mother a vision of the glory and splendor of the work that is given to her when a babe is placed in her bosom to be nursed and trained! Could she have but one glimpse into the future of that life as it reaches on into eternity; could she look into its soul to see its possibilities; could she be made to understand her own personal responsibility for the training of this child, for the development of its life, and for its destiny--she would see that in all God's world there is no other work so noble and so worthy of her best powers, and she would commit to no other's hand the sacred and holy trust given to her." --JR Miller

Our High Calling is a Holy Calling—straight from the Father Himself.

Titus 2 beginning in verse 4 " that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands so that the word of God will not be dishonored."

From our very creation (Genesis), we were created by Him to be nurtures instinctually, by the way we were made, our bodies and our emotions.

So, we as women, inasmuch as we are able, are to be home and family focused. It's how we were created and it is where we will find our greatest joy.

Joy and familyI love Joy's play on words. She is a SAHM-a Stay at Home Missionary. This is a calling for all SAHMs, but for Joy, it has double meaning. Here's her story:

Hello, my name is Joy! Who am I? Well, I'm glad you asked. I am a wife to a wonderful missionary pilot, a mommy to five (the last two are twins), and I live in Indonesia. That's me in a nutshell.

My tagline for my personal blog is "reaching the world for Christ, beginning in the home". This sums up my heart for my life.

If I had to sum up my focus for my blog, it would be this:

1. To encourage women to find their first ministry in the home, as a wife and mother.

2. To encourage women to see themselves as missionaries wherever they are, whether far or near, and to reach out as a family unit to their community.

3. To proclaim to the world that overseas missionaries are just ordinary people serving an extraordinary God, they're just living in a different place!
